Susan Kirsch

Susan handles mainly chemical subject-matter, including consumer chemistry, food chemistry, catalysts and polymer chemistry. She is very experienced in prosecuting patent applications as well as conducting opposition and appeal procedures, including appearing frequently at oral proceedings, before the European Patent Office. She has appeared before a number of the Boards of Appeal on many occasions. She has been involved in High Court Litigation in the UK and also litigation in a number of other jurisdictions, including saisie proceedings in Belgium and cross-border injunction proceedings in the Netherlands.
Before joining Carpmaels & Ransford in 2000, Susan worked for Unilever PLC, initially as a scientist in the Skin Research Department and then for approximately ten years in the Patent Department, where she qualified as a European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Agent in 1994. Whilst with Unilever, Susan worked within all key product categories including the Detergent and Home Product, Personal Product and Food Categories. She therefore has considerable experience in all patent and related issues associated with the corporate environment.
Susan became a partner of Carpmaels & Ransford in July 2005 and is responsible for a number of key portfolios of international businesses including the Consumer Division of Johnson and Johnson. Susan is a tutor on the CEIPI course for candidates preparing for the EQE opposition paper both in Strasbourg and in Scandinavia, she is also an epi tutor for the EQE papers.
MoreSusan graduated from Leeds University and then did a PhD at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill, London, with placement at the Institute for Cancer Research in London.
Susan enjoys spending her leisure time both with her family and also following her own leisure interests. She has a keen, varied interest in music, regularly going to concerts. She is also an accomplished horse rider and enjoys walking, especially hill walking.
