M.Eng (Hons) (Oxon), Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney.

John read Engineering Science at Magdalen College, Oxford and, prior to joining Carpmaels & Ransford and qualifying as a patent attorney, he worked for a leading technology consultancy firm in Cambridge. John now specialises in protecting computer- and telecommunications-related technology, software and business methods in the UK and throughout Europe. He has been successful in obtaining valuable patents for a variety of software and IT businesses for whom patent protection in Europe is increasingly desirable, but an area fraught with difficulty.

John also has considerable experience of medical device technology, particularly drug delivery systems, and in advising a range of companies from start-ups to multi-nationals on more general IP issues including infringement and enforcement of patents and design rights, and licensing issues. John has represented his clients' interests successfully in hearings at the European Patent Office. He is a council member of the UK Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).

John is an avid participant in a variety of adventure sports.
