Chris retired in 2010 following a long and successful career at Carpmaels & Ransford. Chris mainly handled biotechnological and chemical subject-matter but also handled light mechanical subject-matter. His practice was mainly before the European Patent Office in which he has been responsible for a large number of applications and oppositions. He has argued orally before numerous Opposition Divisions and Boards of Appeal and has argued successfully before the Enlarged Board of Appeal. He has considerable experience in prosecuting applications and interferences in the USPTO using local attorneys.

He has been deeply involved in High Court litigation and litigation in Germany and The Netherlands. He is a Patent Attorney Litigator, a member of the council of CIPA and is the immediate past President of epi. He is a member of SACEPO and of FICPI's Biotechnology Committee
