Biography
James Ogle
Associate
PhD (Cantab), Dipl.-Biochem. (University of Regensburg), Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney
James acts for clients in all areas of patent law, providing advice on the protection of inventions, prosecuting patent portfolios worldwide, handling oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office, and advising on matters of due diligence or freedom to operate.
Drawing upon the strength of his scientific background, he handles a wide variety of biotechnological and pharmaceutical subject-matter, including biological and small-molecule therapeutics, cell therapeutics, biotechnological research tools, transgenics for cancer research, protein biochemistry, macromolecular structure, and nucleic acid applications, in particular in the RNA field.
His interest in RNA dates back to 2000-03, the time of his PhD research on the structure and function of the ribosome with Venki Ramakrishnan, Nobel laureate in 2009 for research in this area. With Ramakrishnan, James explored how, in all living organisms, ribosomal RNA decodes genetic information to make proteins. This work structurally explained how the codon-anticodon base pairing rules operate (including “wobble”) and how certain antibiotics act upon the ribosome. Following this scientific research, James was awarded numerous prizes and a fellowship at Trinity College, Cambridge.
MoreBefore his PhD, James also published other research, on protein NMR methodology and the chemistry of penicillin biosynthesis. For the latter, James worked in Sir Jack E. Baldwin’s chemical and enzymological research groups at Oxford University.
James is originally from Munich, the home of the European Patent Office, and speaks English, German (native), French and Spanish.
James’s interests include playing the violin and writing music.
