B.A. (Hons.) (Chemistry), MA, D.Phil. Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney, Registered Trade Mark Attorney, European Trade Mark Attorney, Member of the Institute of Trademark Attorneys.

Paul maintains a broad IP practice extending from life sciences to trade marks. His technical background lies in chemistry, particularly pharmaceuticals, in which he has a strong research background. Paul graduated at Oxford University before going on to complete a D.Phil., also at Oxford, and a post-doc at UC Irvine in synthetic organic chemistry, prior to joining the firm in 1988. This background, together with spells in drug discovery and process development at a major pharmaceutical company formed a solid foundation of research and development experience which continues to prove invaluable in Paul’s practice.

At the core of Paul’s patents practice is an expertise in drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications, and in opposition and appeal proceedings in the European Patent Office. Such expertise is essential to the objective of providing strategic and practical advice tailored to the needs of Paul’s clients, which range from start-ups to multinational corporations and academic institutions, with interests in chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, manufacturing and consumer products.

Paul also maintains a significant trade marks practice and represents UK and international companies, both large and small, at the UK Intellectual Property Office and OHIM.
