Hazel Turner
Trainee
MChem (Hons.) (Chemistry), PhD (Chemistry)
Hazel joined the firm in 2008 as a trainee Patent Attorney. She has a MChem in Chemistry from Oxford University and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Manchester. Hazel spent her final year at Oxford University specialising in the field of Organic Chemistry and her research project
involved the synthesis of dihydro- and tetrahydropyrans via a palladium (II) mediated reaction. During her PhD, Hazel studied molecules which display axial chirality, and in particular, worked on the synthesis of novel atropisomeric diarylurea compounds, utilising organolithium chemistry.
Hazel carried out part of her research, and gained valuable insights into the pharmaceutical industry, while on placement at Organon’s drug discovery research complex in Scotland (now part of Schering-Plough). Hazel’s research has led to several publications in peer-reviewed journals.
