Anthony James

M.A. (Chemistry), D.Phil., Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney.

Anthony joined the partnership in 1998. His practice covers industrial chemistry, medical devices, foods, and consumer products, and major clients include Johnson & Johnson, Mars Incorporated, Systagenix Wound Management, International Packaging Ltd., Appleton Papers, Multisorb Inc. and The Gates Corporation. He has much experience of EPO prosecution, opposition and appeal work, and an enviable record of success in contested proceedings at the EPO.

Anthony studied chemistry at Oxford University and was awarded a first class degree in 1985. He was awarded a D.Phil by Oxford University in 1988 for research on lithium battery technology. Before becoming a patent attorney he pursued research in materials-related fields as a staff scientist at the University of Texas at Austin, and at AT&T Bell Laboratories in New Jersey. He is the author or co-author of 24 research papers and review articles.

Most of Anthony’s spare time is occupied by a wife, two children and a greyhound. Moments of leisure are spent on country pursuits.
