Claire deals with a wide range of technology in the mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering, and optics fields. She has over 20 years of experience in a broad and varied selection of fields, with particular expertise in automotive electro-mechanical components, medical devices including surgical and ophthalmic devices, and defence. Over the years Claire has worked on cases relating to subject-matter ranging from transmissions, couplers and drive systems, production machinery and tooling, to energy storage, semiconductors and nanotechnology. Claire’s practice is mostly concerned with the drafting and prosecution of patent applications before the European Patent Office (EPO) and UK IP Office, and the handling of post-grant opposition proceedings before the EPO. She represents her clients’ interests in hearings before the EPO both diligently and effectively and has significant experience advising clients on more general IP issues including IP strategy, due diligence and design rights. She works creatively and efficiently to maximise IP protection for her clients.

She studied at the University of Oxford (Brasenose College), graduating in 2001 with a First-Class degree in Physics. During her degree, Claire was awarded an academic scholarship for her ongoing achievement. During the final year of her degree, she specialised in medical physics, and undertook a project designing and constructing an optical instrument to analyse human colour vision response in dyslexics. The project involved undertaking research in the fields of physiology, optics, materials and production engineering, as well as instrument construction.

Claire has previously worked in the research and development department of a leading manufacturer of industrial printing equipment, where she undertook a software project to introduce local language compatibility to printers. For her work on this project, Claire was awarded the Young Engineers for Britain award for the East Midlands Region.

Claire has built her own kit car and enjoys fixing all manner of things around her home and garden. She spends the majority of her spare time with her husband and rescue dog watching her two children playing sport, but loves nothing more than being in the great outdoors, walking, cycling, climbing and skiing.
