Carpmaels & Ransford has announced the promotion of four new partners: Emily Nikolic, Richard Newell, Craig Lumb and Lara Elder

The promotions reflect the firm’s continued development of senior talent and the strength of its Life Sciences, Disputes and Trade Marks practices. Together, the new partners bring expertise across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical technologies, dispute resolution and trade marks, supporting clients with the protection, enforcement and commercialisation of intellectual property rights. The promotions come as the firm celebrates its 250th anniversary and recognise the contribution each individual has made to clients, colleagues and the wider business.

Emily is a biotech patent attorney specialising in therapeutic antibodies and vaccines. She advises clients on contentious matters before the EPO and UPC, helping to develop IP strategies aligned with their commercial objectives. Emily is recognised as a Legal 500 Leading Associate and has been named by JUVE Patent as one of its ‘Ones to Watch’.

Based in the firm’s Munich office, Richard is a patent attorney specialising in pharmaceuticals and other medical inventions. He regularly represents clients in EPO and national proceedings, including high-value oppositions, appeals and litigation matters.

Craig is a patent litigator focused on pharmaceutical and biotechnology disputes. He has particular expertise in coordinating parallel litigation across multiple jurisdictions for global life sciences clients and is recognised as a Legal 500 Leading Associate.

Lara is a UK trade mark attorney with experience across the full range of trade mark matters, from clearance and oppositions to enforcement and anti-counterfeiting strategies. She is recognised as a Rising Star by Managing IP and a Recommended Individual in WTR 1000.

James Warner, Senior Partner at Carpmaels & Ransford, comments:

“Today’s promotions recognise four exceptional colleagues who have each made their mark with significant contributions to our strategy during the more than 50 years that they have collectively been with the firm. They embody the technical excellence, innovative perspective and sterling client service that have defined Carpmaels & Ransford throughout our 250-year history.

“With clients increasingly requiring their goals to be pursued in multiple jurisdictions and courts to enforce their IP rights, being able to field a team that is well-versed in these complexities is essential. Identifying and nurturing the very best talent is more important than ever and I look forward to seeing Emily, Richard, Craig and Lara continue their outstanding work in support of our clients.”
