Carpmaels & Ransford is delighted to announce the promotion of James Channer to Senior Associate, effective 1st July 2025.
James is a key patent practitioner in our Engineering and Tech teams, with deep expertise in cutting-edge medtech innovation — including drug delivery systems, surgical robotics, and advanced diagnostics for infectious diseases. His technical knowledge also spans fields including renewable energy, consumer electronics, and quantum technologies.
Since joining the firm as a trainee in 2016, James has built up a varied and dynamic practice involving a number of blue-chip engineering clients. He plays a key role in providing advice across the full IP lifecycle — from initial concept and patent drafting through to high-stakes contentious work, including EPO oppositions. He has been the lead patent attorney on a number of multinational litigation matters handled by the firm. His experience in defending and asserting patents in complex disputes has made him a trusted advisor to clients navigating patent issues involving high-value innovation.
John Brunner, Head of Engineering and Tech at Carpmaels & Ransford, comments:
“Congratulations to James, who has built a diverse and increasingly strategic practice since joining the firm as a trainee in 2016. His promotion highlights both his individual strengths and the depth of our medtech capability — reinforcing our ability to support healthcare and engineering clients from early-stage innovation through to litigation.”
James’s promotion follows the recent elevation of energy specialist Russell Woolley to the partnership and the arrival of Andrew Hutchinson as a Partner in the Disputes Resolution team on 1st July 2025.
