First Impressions

Philip Naylor, Associate

Before starting at Carpmaels, I wondered how the firm has achieved its consistent ranking as one of the very best over the years. The answer to this question became clear from the noticeable emphasis that is placed on quality throughout the firm.

Since joining the Engineering & Tech team, I have been given a varied and interesting workload. This has included getting involved in complex matters, from both a technical and legal perspective. I have particularly enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with many different people throughout the firm, including those from other departments. For instance, I have been given the opportunity to work on cases at the cutting edge of the intersection between electronics and biotech. In cases such as these, the firm’s great strength and breadth in expertise comes into its own.

Carpmaels has an incredible client list that includes some of the world’s largest companies. However, I have been particularly impressed by the firm’s enthusiasm when it comes to engaging with start-ups. This attitude has helped me to develop close relationships with our clients and to pass on experience gained from working with well-established companies to newly formed ones.

In complement to the firm’s professional abilities, the people at Carpmaels know how to entertain as well. This was summed up in my first few weeks when I accompanied a large group of attorneys and trainees on a two-day trip to Hamburg to keep up to date with one of our client’s most recent developments. Needless to say, a good time was had by all, as well as gaining some valuable insight into our client’s business.

Nearly half a year into my career at Carpmaels, I must say the firm has lived up to its incredible reputation. I am very much looking forward to all of the exciting things that I am sure the future has in store.
