We are delighted that five Carpmaels partners have been recognised by Managing IP.

John Brunner, Hugh Goodfellow, Ian Kirby, Cameron Marshall and David Wilson were named IP Stars and the firm was top ranked for UK Patent Prosecution.

The market perception of IP firm Carpmaels & Ransford is encapsulated by one rival who says: “If Carpmaels are on the other side in oppositions you sit up.” This top-tier firm is renowned for its traditional patent prosecution business – with its life sciences and chemistry group said to be one of the strongest in the country. “They’re the best in my view,” says one commentator. “Clearly a force to be reckoned with.” A commentator says the firm is “consistently up there on quality”, adding: “They have a strong, balanced team.”

“They’re the best in my view,” says one commentator

Cameron Marshall, John Brunner and Hugh Goodfellow are among the highly recommended patent attorneys in the team. “I wish John was in my firm,” says one rival. Head of chemistry group Susan Kirsch impresses in contentious work. “Susan is very strong in EPO oppositions,” says one rival. Others such as James Warner, Edward Oates and SPC specialist Daniel Wise are also recommended in their respective fields. “Edward is very impressive in pharma work,” one rival notes. Commentators have also noticed the firm’s growing litigation practice, which recently welcomed former Herbert Smith Freehills partner David Wilson. “David is an excellent operator,” says one. “A class act and a gent.”
