Carpmaels ranked as a leading firm in patent filing and litigation

13 Carpmaels partners were recognised as recommended individuals in the 2024 JUVE Patent UK rankings. The firm was named as a leading firm in pharma and biotechnology, medical technology, chemistry, digital communication and computer technology, and electronics, as well as in the litigation category.

Recommended individuals in this year’s edition include Harvey Adams, Jennifer Antcliff, Camilla Balleny, Stephen Duffield, Hugh Goodfellow, Ian Kirby, Cameron Marshall, Agathe Michel-De Cazotte, Edward Oates, Gary Small, James Warner, David Wilson, and Daniel Wise. Senior Associate Emily Nikolic was also named in the Ones to watch in litigation category.

JUVE includes the following comments about the firm:

The patent litigation practice at Carpmaels & Ransford enjoys an ongoing strong position in the London market, extending across Europe when it comes to both patent prosecution and litigation in the life sciences sector. When it comes to proceedings at the EPO, Carpmaels’ patent attorneys such as Harvey Adams, Stephen Duffield, Hugh Goodfellow, Cameron Marshall, Edward Oates and Daniel Wise clearly play in the top leagues in the UK and Europe.

On the lawyer side, the small but growing team around Ian Kirby and David Wilson, and younger generation litigators Camilla Balleny and Jennifer Antcliff, focuses primarily on life sciences disputes. Only a few other London litigation practices such as Allen & Overy, Hogan Lovells or Powell Gilbert have a presence in pharma proceedings on the side of originator companies to rival that of Carpmaels.

There are hardly any important pan-European disputes over pharma, biotech or medical devices patents in which Carpmaels lawyers and patent attorneys are not involved at some stage.

Commenting on the UPC, JUVE adds:

Carpmaels created the conditions for a good presence at the new court early on. Alongside the highly litigation-experienced European patent attorneys, French-qualified litigator Agathe Michel-de Cazotte, a partner also experienced in German and UK patent law, ensures that the firm has a foot in the door at the UPC when it comes to lawyers representing clients at the court.
