Alastair Baldry
Associate
Alastair is an associate in the Chemistry team at Carpmaels & Ransford. He handles a wide variety of subject-matter including new chemical entities, medical uses and formulations, as well as polymer chemistry, textiles and industrial chemical processes. Alastair particularly enjoys working on contentious matters and has been involved in various European Patent Office opposition and appeal proceedings, including cases relating to blockbuster pharmaceutical products. He has also gained valuable experience working with the Dispute Resolution team on national litigation proceedings concerning Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs).
Before joining the firm in 2019, Alastair graduated from St John’s College, Oxford with a first class degree in Chemistry. Alastair’s final year Master’s project focussed on developing mass photometry for the application to absolute concentration measurements of biomolecules at the single-molecule level with a view to potential medical applications. Whilst at university, he was awarded various prizes for examination results including a Casberd scholarship.
Outside of work, Alastair enjoys a wide range of sports including running, cycling and squash. He is also a keen reader and has a new-found interest in cooking.
