Alex joined Carpmaels & Ransford in September 2017 as a Trainee Patent Attorney, working in both the Chemistry and the Life Sciences Pharmaceutical practice groups, having completed a Master’s degree at Lincoln College, Oxford. His fourth year research project focussed on the biocatalytic synthesis of lactones and other fragrance compounds. By using engineered P450 enzymes, he was able to selectively hydroxylate specific C-H bonds in a range of fatty acids to produce natural grade lactones at laboratory scale.
Outside of the office Alex enjoys rugby and running. He is also an avid traveller, with a bias for countries where he can improve his Arabic.
