Gill leads the Chemistry & Materials team at Carpmaels & Ransford. Gill has a multi-discipline practice which includes the fields of nanomaterials, graphene, polymer chemistry, industrial process chemistry, organometallic chemistry, materials and pharmaceutical chemistry. These competitive fields are, along with her pharmaceutical work, highly contentious in nature and a large part of Gill’s portfolio involves handling opposition cases, in both attack and defence. Gill therefore has extensive experience in representing her clients in both ex- and inter-partes hearings before the European Patent Office. She has also supported a number of pan-European patent litigations on commercial pharmaceutical formulations with lead responsibility for technical arguments.
In the field of pharmaceutical chemistry, she has particular expertise in drafting, prosecuting and defending small molecule pharmaceutical cases, primarily for pharmaceutical originators. She has wide experience in the sector, advising the largest multi-national pharmaceutical companies, mid-caps and start-ups, including Janssen, Novartis, Vertex, Memorial Sloan Kettering, KalVista Pharmaceuticals Limited, Vantia Limited, Modern Biosciences, Aragon Pharmaceuticals, Inc., ITI Scotland Limited, Dart Neuroscience and Pain Therapeutics Inc.
Gill advises a number of her clients on the management of global patent portfolios and has prosecution experience in the major global jurisdictions beyond Europe, including the US, Japan, China and Korea. On the pharma side, her experience advising on commercial products means she regularly handles the complex interplay between patents, supplementary protection certificates and regulatory data protection. Gill is therefore a sought-out advisor for clients seeking the development of strategies for the management of global patent portfolios which protect commercial products.
Gill has first class MA (Hons) and MSci degrees in Natural Sciences from St. John’s College, University of Cambridge.
