Counsel

Henry is a Counsel in the Dispute Resolution team with extensive experience in patent litigation in the life sciences, chemicals and automotive sectors. Henry has assisted clients before the UK Patents Court and Court of Appeal in both the liability and quantum phases of litigation, and coordinated multi-jurisdictional patent actions. Henry also, provides strategic advice on patent and IP protection and enforcement.

Within the life sciences space, Henry has acted for a variety of clients in relation to small molecules, biomolecules and medical devices including Teva, Gilead, Menarini and Sinocare. More broadly, Henry’s clients have included Johnson Matthey and Neo performance Materials in the chemicals and automotive spaces.

Henry’s experience in UK proceedings extends from preliminary issues to the final decision on damages awards.

Henry has advised extensively on the strategies regarding applications for preliminary injunctions in the UK.

Notably, Henry represented members of the Neo Performance Materials group all the way from UK first instance proceedings on liability to a successful defence of an appeal in damages proceedings, including consideration of the law on causation.

As part of a multijurisdictional team, Henry assisted Gilead in protecting its rights in the blockbuster drug sofosbuvir (revolutionary for the treatment of hepatitis c) by the successful revocation of third-party patents encroaching on such rights. The case included the consideration of plausibility of patent claims and the breadth of claims to Markush formulae.

Henry enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, in particular hiking and skiing, and is also a car enthusiast.
