Jamie Horseman

Technical Assistant

Jamie joined Carpmaels and Ransford in 2024 as a trainee patent attorney in the Life Sciences group. She graduated with a first-class integrated master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Bristol.

Jamie completed her Master’s project under the supervision of Professor Chris Willis, in collaboration with an AstraZeneca research team. She investigated the effects of genetic engineering on a Diels-Alderase found on the Pacific seabed for the proposed application of the enzyme as an industrial biocatalyst. Her research was interdisciplinary in nature and involved multistep organic synthesis, in vitro bioassays, and structural elucidation using a range of spectroscopic techniques.

During her year on exchange at the University of Texas at Austin, Jamie conducted bioinorganic research under the supervision of Dr Michael J Rose. During her project, which investigated a biomimetic catalyst for sustainable dihydrogen production, she synthesized an active site analogue of mono-iron hydrogenase with alternative scaffold-based ligands.

Jamie is passionate about ocean conservation having worked as a Divemaster in Australia in a past life, and she is always planning her next scuba diving adventure. She also loves sailing, going to the theatre, and playing killer sudoku.
