Maria Nikolova

Technical Assistant

Maria joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2022 as a trainee in the Life Sciences team. She graduated with a first-class Masters in Biochemistry from the University of York. Her master’s project resulted in a peer-reviewed publication on the photochemistry of a nucleobase analogue with potential applications in medicine, which she investigated using laser spectroscopy interfaced with mass spectrometry.

Maria’s PhD research at the University of Leeds focussed on structural and mechanistic studies of the PACE family of antimicrobial efflux proteins found in Gram negative bacteria. As part of her Doctoral Training Programme, Maria undertook a three-month internship at Oxford University Innovation, the technology transfer office of the University of Oxford. There, she developed her knowledge of the process of technology commercialisation and worked on key tasks such as patentability searches, market discovery, marketing summaries of inventions and ongoing project management.

In her spare time, Maria likes to take dance classes, go to the cinema or theatre, and see live music
