Mathew Hedges

Mathew is part of the Engineering and Tech team and works across a wide range of technology, with a particular focus on consumer electronics, data structures, video coding, and telecommunications. He assists clients from concept development to international prosecution and EPO opposition. He also has a keen interest in registered designs practice.

Mathew entered the patent profession in 2022. Before joining Carpmaels & Ransford in 2026, he qualified as a European patent attorney at an international full-service firm. In 2024, he was awarded a Distinction in the Intellectual Property Law Postgraduate Certificate at Queen Mary University of London. Prior to this, he studied Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, graduating with a double first.

Outside of work, Mathew enjoys international travel, planespotting, and the occasional game of croquet. He previously rowed at the Henley Royal Regatta, but now prefers less strenuous pursuits.
