Maxwell Haughey

Technical Assistant

Max joined Carpmaels & Ransford in September 2020 as a Trainee Patent Attorney, working in both the Chemistry & Materials and Life Sciences teams.

Prior to this, Max obtained a first class degree in chemistry from Magdalen College, University of Oxford. His Masters’ project built on previous work to complete the total synthesis of the natural product (−)-(3R)-inthomycin C. Max continued his research with Professor Timothy Donohoe at Oxford for his DPhil in Organic Chemistry. This work resulted in a novel approach towards the total synthesis of the taiwanschirin family of natural products, a highly structurally complex and biologically active family that have never been synthesised previously. Max has published his research in several international peer-reviewed journals and won a prize at the AstraZeneca Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology Final-Year Graduate Symposium. During his DPhil he was able to gain experience within the Flexible Discovery Unit at GlaxoSmithKline, Stevenage. Max has previously also completed a summer internship within the Process Chemistry Department at MSD, Hoddesdon.

In his spare time Max is a keen runner and enjoys finding new races to take part in. He loves plants and the natural world and can often be found in the garden.
