Megan joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2021 as a Trainee Patent Attorney in the Life Sciences group. She graduated with a first-class BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Sciences (Reproductive Biology) from the University of Edinburgh, ranking first in her cohort. Subsequently, she obtained an MSc in Clinical Embryology (with Distinction) and a DPhil in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Oxford.
Megan has particular expertise in reproductive genetics. During her MSc, she worked on the development of a real-time PCR method of analysing DNA damage and telomere length in sperm during in vitro fertilisation (IVF). She was then awarded a Clarendon Scholarship to pursue her DPhil research on the development of new methods of testing preimplantation embryos for genetic abnormalities during IVF. Through applying novel DNA amplification and sequencing technologies, multiple clinical diagnostics were developed with the potential to reduce costs and improve patient access. Megan was awarded a Senior Hulme Scholarship from Brasenose College in recognition of academic distinction.
Outside of the office, Megan enjoys travelling, playing the piano, experimenting with recipes, and trying out new fitness classes.
