Oliver Jones

Technical Assistant

Oliver joined the firm as a Trainee Patent Attorney in 2020 after undertaking the Carpmaels & Ransford summer internship in 2019. Completing his MEng in Electrical and Information Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2020 as the IET’s Royal Exhibition Scholar, Oliver specialised in embedded electronic systems and machine learning, with interests in computer vision and communications. Oliver also has previous experience working in the nuclear power and cybersecurity sectors before and during university.

Oliver’s final year project was focussed around computer vision in table top war gaming, using a camera to reconstruct and recognise items in a scene and then provide statistical analysis on the state of the board – winning the CAPE Acorn Prize for 4th year projects. Oliver was also awarded  the Integrated Design Project prize for a team project creating an autonomous robot capable of sorting objects for delivery based on size and colour, as well as the Software Design prize for a programme that simulates arbitrary digital circuits based on a custom programming language allowing a user to specify their designs.

In his free time Oliver is an avid miniature painter and table top war gamer. He also enjoys the theatre, playing the saxophone and is a qualified assistant sailing instructor.
