Rory is a member of our Dispute Resolution team and since joining Carpmaels & Ransford has been involved in a range of IP disputes, including actions in the High Court involving patent and design rights for medical and dental devices. He joined the firm from the British Army where he served first as an officer in the Royal Engineers and then as a legal adviser. In his previous role Rory was involved in litigation in both the military and civilian jurisdictions, as well as advising senior military commanders on UK and international law.
Rory studied engineering at The Queen’s College, University of Oxford, where he specialised in robotics and computer vision. His final year project involved writing an “intelligent scissors” computer program which extracted objects from one video sequence and then placed them into another. Rory was an Astbury Scholar of Middle Temple whilst undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Bar Professional Training Course. He then qualified as a barrister at a leading set of chambers.
Away from work Rory’s time is dominated by his twin children. However, when they allow, he enjoys running, mountaineering and rugby.
