Sophie Wainwright

Sophie joined the Chemistry and Pharmaceutical teams at Carpmaels & Ransford in 2021 having completed her Master’s degree in Drug Design at University College London. Prior to this, she was at King’s College, Cambridge, where she studied Natural Sciences specialising in Pharmacology.  During her studies, Sophie received numerous scholarships and named prizes for achieving top marks in her final year exams.

Sophie’s undergraduate research focussed on the theme of antibiotic resistance and involved examining potential antibacterial properties of a small peptide and the synergistic activities with common antibiotics. Following this, she undertook a computational Master’s research project during which she examined the structural motions of Class D β-lactamases using Gaussian accelerated molecular dynamics and deep learning.

Outside of the office, Sophie is a keen flautist and enjoys walking in the Chilterns at the weekends. She also spends her time reading and visiting her family in Northumberland.
