Ted Kehoe

Technical Assistant

Ted joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2024 as a Trainee Patent Attorney in the firm’s Life Sciences team after graduating from Selwyn College, Cambridge, with first-class BA and MSci degrees in Natural Sciences. In recent years, his theoretical and practical studies have focused on surface chemistry, inorganic materials, and supramolecular synthesis. Throughout his academic career, he has received several awards for excellence, including the Jagpal Prize, the Tallow Chandlers’ Prize, and the Emeleus Prize for outstanding performance in his final-year inorganic chemistry exams.

For his master’s project, Ted focused on synthesizing novel self-assembling supramolecular architectures – more specifically, heterometallic coordination cages featuring a previously unreported vertex motif. Such structures, while theoretically fascinating, also have potential uses in myriad industrial processes. Following the submission of his master’s thesis, Ted was awarded the Johnson Matthey Prize for the best research project in inorganic chemistry.

During his undergraduate degree, he also engaged in several research internships, including a project investigating the formation of self-assembled monolayers of imidazolium-based ionic liquids on graphite and another utilizing neutron reflectometry to characterize the structures of novel carbon-based coatings.

In his spare time, Ted enjoys reading and hiking – a hobby he confounds by repeatedly living in exceptionally flat areas. Since university, he has worked on his social mobility efforts to widen participation of first-generation students in higher education and hopes to continue this work in London.
