William Liu

Will joined Carpmaels and Ransford in 2025 as a Trainee Patent Attorney. He graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2024 with a BA and MSci in Natural Sciences, specialising in Chemistry. Prior to joining the firm, Will worked as a medicinal chemist at Merck Sharp & Dohme delivering tool molecules for biological studies.

In his master’s year, Will focused on organic chemistry, developing new synthetic methods in the Gaunt group. Specifically, he devised new strategies to access isoindolinones through the use of photoredox catalysis. In addition, he undertook a project at Caltech investigating the dynamics of transcription factors containing intrinsically-disordered regions using super-resolution microscopy.

Outside of the office, Will enjoys staying active preferably sitting down while rowing or cycling, though can be tempted into the occasional run.
