John Snape

John joined the Life Sciences team in 2015 as a trainee patent attorney. His principal focus is patent prosecution and he collaborates with attorneys based in India, the US, Canada, Australia and other jurisdictions on national and regional issues. His work covers a spectrum of life sciences technologies, including vaccines, antibody technology, bioinformatics, gene sequencing and nucleic acid therapeutics. Beyond prosecution, John is involved in freedom-to-operate (FTO), portfolio prosecution coordination and litigious matters.

John is a graduate of the University of Oxford, where he was an Eliahou Dangoor scholar specialising in bionanotechnology, clinical immunology and virology. John gained interdisciplinary experience in a Condensed Matter Physics research group at the University, where he designed a self-assembling DNA origami nanostructure and a novel irradiation assay, with relevance to the optimisation of radiobiological procedures. Additionally, he secured a BBSRC Research Experience Placement (REP) to investigate protein-protein interactions between a colicin antimicrobial peptide and an Escherichia coli outer-membrane porin. As part of his training, John obtained the Certificate in IP Law from Queen Mary University of London, receiving the GlaxoSmithKline Prize for achieving the highest mark across both patent examination papers.

Time permitting, John enjoys cooking and (mercifully) infrequent sessions of amateur boxing.
