Laura Johnson

Senior Associate

Laura sits within the Engineering and Tech teams at Carpmaels & Ransford and specialises in computer implemented inventions, including fintech, cloud computing and communications. She has expertise in and experience with machine learning inventions across a wide range of applications, including in the healthcare sector. Laura works for a broad range of clients, from high-growth start-ups to large financial institutions, and her work focuses primarily on prosecution, drafting patents, and navigating the EPO and UKIPO’s complex approach to computer implemented inventions. Laura also handles patent portfolio management and helps clients to assess their portfolio’s commercial relevance and potential.

Laura holds a degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, where she earned a University College exhibition for academic achievement. Laura subsequently moved to the University of Warwick for an industry sponsored PhD in Telecommunications. Her research focused on the adaptation of wireless optical communication systems for underwater environments.

Outside of the office Laura is also a tech enthusiast. She enjoys video gaming and building computers to achieve the optimal gaming experience. She also actively follows the latest tech industry news, and has a keen interest in home automation technologies.
