Liz McKinley

Liz works within the Life Sciences group at Carpmaels & Ransford. She has notable experience managing large, complex portfolios of patent families, in Europe and worldwide, for clients including small start-ups and big pharma and academic institutions. Liz works on all aspects of patent prosecution, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, as well as on cases in post-grant opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office, in the context of representing both patent proprietors and opponents. She provides thorough strategic, legal and technical advice that is truly tailored to each individual client’s needs.

Liz handles portfolios of patents and applications spanning a wide variety of biotechnological subject-matter including nucleic acid and polypeptide based therapeutics, monoclonal antibodies, diagnostic assays and transgenic animals.

Liz qualified as both a European Patent Attorney and a UK Patent Attorney in 2013 after joining Carpmaels & Ransford in 2009. She graduated from The Queen’s College, University of Oxford with an MBiochem degree in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry. During her degree, Liz specialised in the fields of immunology, neuropharmacology and bionanotechnology. In her final year, she carried out a research project studying the effect of the proton electrochemical gradient on the twin-arginine protein translocation system in E. coli.

Liz spends a lot of her time outside of the office long distance running and also has a lot of fun playing netball for her local team.
