Mark handles a diverse range of industrial and medicinal chemistry-based subject-matter, including small-molecule pharmaceuticals, contact lenses, building materials, personal care products, catalysts, optical media, and implantable medical devices. He is experienced in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the UK and Europe and has also co-ordinated the prosecution of patent families covering up to 40 jurisdictions across the globe. In addition, Mark has experience of the European Patent Office’s opposition and post-grant limitation procedures.

Mark joined the firm in 2005, having studied Natural Sciences at Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge, where he specialised in chemistry with materials science. During his studies, Mark carried out research in the field of crystal engineering, specifically solid-state/green methods of co-crystal formation. He also completed a placement synthesising polymeric bisphosphonates for the recognition of proteins at the Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany. In addition, Mark has worked on the development and validation of quantitative risk assessment models for gas transmission pipelines during his time as a Year in Industry student prior to starting university and again during the summer breaks.

Mark is a passionate follower of Formula 1 and a keen cyclist, and also enjoys snowboarding and windsurfing.
