Lawrence’s work within the Engineering and Tech practice groups at Carpmaels & Ransford encompasses diverse fields of technology, including semiconductor devices, medical imaging systems, surgical instruments, display technologies, telecommunications, and software, for clients ranging from large multinational corporations, to start-ups and individual inventors. He has experience at all stages of the patent lifecycle, including drafting and prosecution of patent applications, as well as defending and attacking granted patents in EPO opposition and appeal proceedings. Lawrence has also worked on a number of due diligence projects, in which he has advised clients on freedom to operate and validity issues.
Lawrence joined Carpmaels & Ransford after graduating from the University of Cambridge with a first class honours degree in Natural Sciences, specialising in Experimental and Theoretical Physics. During his undergraduate studies, he was awarded several scholarships from Jesus College in recognition of his academic achievements. In his final year, Lawrence specialised in condensed matter physics and microelectronics. His research project investigated the properties of Gallium Manganese Arsenide, and means of optimising the material through novel wafer designs for use in spintronic applications, including quantum computing.
In his spare time, Lawrence is a keen guitarist who also enjoys racket sports and football, and is a black belt in karate.
