Alexander Hackett

Associate

As part of the Engineering and Technology team, Alex’s work encompasses a diverse range technologies including cardiac catheterisation and mapping, breath monitoring for smoking cessation, spatial audio processing, and green energy storage solutions. Alex has experience guiding start-ups new to IP through the process of obtaining patent protection and helping them build a robust patent portfolio from the ground up, as well as developing effective global prosecution strategies for world leading medical technology companies.

Since joining Carpmaels & Ransford as a Technical Assistant in 2019, Alex’s work has focused on devices for mapping and treatment of electrophysiological cardiac conditions, but his background in physics and audio processing has enabled him to build a broad church of technical experience. His keen analytical ability is an invaluable tool for achieving robust protection for his clients as Alex particularly enjoys weeding out small but crucial developments provided by his client’s innovations, helping him to maximise their protection. In addition to handling UK and European patent prosecution, Alex helps to manage streamlined and efficient prosecution of global patent portfolios.

Alex holds a first class Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Manchester, and a Bachelor’s with distinction in Music Production and Sound Engineering from Point Blank Music School.

Outside of work, Alex continues his interest in music and enjoys playing guitar and banjo. He is also a keen cyclist, whether that’s out on the hills of Kent, suffering on the turbo trainer in the spare room “pain cave”, or simply scrubbing every last bit of dirt out of the drive train.
