Ben Vernall

Ben joined the Life Sciences team at Carpmaels & Ransford in 2023 after graduating from Magdalen College, Oxford with a master’s degree (MBiochem) in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, receiving multiple academic scholarships from his college.

His master’s research focussed on using structural phylogenetic methods for the discovery of novel members of the human cysteine protease enzyme superfamily. He was particularly interested in the discovery of new deubiquitinases or ubiquitin-like proteases within this class, combining in vitro activity-based probe assays and in silico approaches to try to determine the enzymatic activity of identified targets.

Outside of work, Ben is a keen runner and sportsman, particularly football and tennis. He also enjoys playing the trumpet and going for walks with his family and dog.
