Chantal Whitfield

Associate

Chantal joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2018 and is part of the Chemistry group. Her work relates to a variety of subject-matter including NCEs, medical uses and formulations, as well as consumer products and simple medical devices.

Chantal mainly focuses on EPO matters. Her prosecution portfolio includes EP applications from a wide range of applicants in both the pharmaceutical and consumer sectors, and she enjoys working with her clients to provide them with bespoke claim coverage. Her opposition work is more focussed in the pharmaceutical sector, and she particularly enjoys working on EP patent families for applicants in this sector with multiple related applications and patents, often all undergoing examination or opposition proceedings in parallel. She also has an interest in SPC law, particularly with respect to advising clients on SPC filing strategy.

Before joining the firm, Chantal graduated from Imperial College London with first class honours in Chemistry. During her degree, she spent a year in Switzerland at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, where she completed her final year project. Chantal’s project looked into the development of peptide inhibitors for tissue kallikreins. This was achieved through a combination of phage display and protein synthesis, whereby potential inhibitors were identified, synthesised, then tested in vitro to determine their binding affinities to the target kallikreins.

Outside of work, Chantal enjoys sailing or skiing, depending on the time of year, as well as simply enjoying the great outdoors.
