Emma Maiden

Emma has worked in the Life Sciences group at Carpmaels & Ransford since 2017. She has expertise in a broad range of technical subject matter, with a particular focus on therapeutic antibodies, as well as CAR-T therapies and their surrounding technologies.
Emma has experience in strategic management of large global patent portfolios for commercial antibody products, and particularly enjoys working with clients on creative strategies for follow-on protection of these products. At the EPO, Emma regularly advises clients across all stages of patent prosecution, and has been involved in attacking and defending patents in multi-party proceedings at the EPO (both first instance and appeal).
Emma qualified as a European and UK patent attorney in 2021, having previously received Distinction in the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law course at Queen Mary University of London.
Prior to joining Carpmaels, Emma graduated with a first-class Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from the University of Oxford. During her final year of study, Emma developed a particular interest in Immunology, and received the British Society for Immunology undergraduate prize for her final exams. After graduating, Emma worked in the Research and Innovation team at Cancer Research UK, working on a number of strategic projects including CRUK’s intellectual property strategy.
Outside of work, Emma is an active member of a local church and enjoys cooking, running, and keeping up with her two preschooler boys.
