Hiske Roos

Associate

Hiske is an associate in the Dispute Resolution team with a focus on patent litigation at the UPC. She has experience of litigation before the Dutch Court (both first instance and appeal) and the UPC. Hiske has been involved in four infringement actions (including three with counterclaims) and two revocation actions in the UPC on both the claimant and defendant side, mainly in the pharmaceutical and biological area. This includes the high-profile dispute between Sanofi / Regeneron and Amgen concerning the validity of Amgen’s patent protecting anti-PCSK9 inhibitors as well as PI proceedings between 10x Genomics and Curio which involved procedural disputes on costs, confidentiality and change of language (the latter was decided in first instance and on appeal).

In addition, Hiske has experience of coordinating multi-jurisdictional disputes across Europe and the US and has worked on patent and other IP related, contentious and non-contentious, matters in various jurisdictions such as the Netherlands, the UK and Hong Kong. She has worked for clients mostly operating in the pharmaceutical and tech industries.

Hiske has a broad range of patent litigation experience, including (cross-border) preliminary injunctions, confidentiality issues, validity and infringement issues. She began her career at a Magic Circle law firm and has also spent time on secondment at a major tech company where she was responsible for coordinating their patent litigation in Europe.

She obtained an LLM on Intellectual Property Law at the Queen Mary University of London (with distinction) where she wrote her thesis on second medical use claims, and is Dutch qualified.

Outside of work Hiske plays the violin, likes travelling and recently got interested in the art of bread making.
