Jennifer Milligan

Technical Assistant

Jennifer joined Carpmaels and Ransford in 2023 as a Trainee Patent Attorney in the Life Science Group. Prior to this, she obtained a first-class Bachelors (Hons) degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Dundee. During this time, she completed a 6-month project focused on the development of X-linked intellectual disability caused by mutations in O-GlcNAc transferase. This work formed the basis of her Honour’s year dissertation, for which she was awarded the D’Arcy Thompson Commemorative Medal. She then moved to London where she completed a PhD in Biochemistry from Imperial College London at the Francis Crick Institute.

Her doctoral research focused on investigating the mechanisms of replication-coupled parental nucleosome recycling using an in vitro reconstituted chromatin replication system of purified proteins. In response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, Jennifer participated in a large-scale, collaborative COVID-19 enzymology project through which novel inhibitors of SARS-CoV2 were identified and characterised.

In a past life, she was an avid open water swimmer, participating in several swims including the River Forth, the River Tay and the English Channel.
