Kyla Thomas

Technical Assistant

Kyla joined Carpmaels & Ransford as a technical assistant in the Chemistry team in 2023, after completing an internship with the firm in 2022. She graduated from The Queen’s College, University of Oxford, with an integrated Master’s degree in chemistry. During her degree she received multiple academic scholarships and worked for the college access and outreach team in promoting higher education to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Kyla’s Master’s project was with the McCullagh Group at the University of Oxford and focused on the integration of data from mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and RNA sequencing-based transcriptomics to study IDH1 mutations in glioblastoma cells. Her research involved many cell culture experiments, using an array of mass spectrometry techniques, and analysing the vast data outputs typical of multiomics research.

In her free time, Kyla enjoys reading, going to the theatre, and baking, as well as volunteering with young people to help them write their university applications. She also has a keen interest in gender studies and particularly enjoys learning about such issues.
