Madeleine Hooper

Madeleine joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2019 as a Trainee Patent Attorney in the Life Sciences group. She graduated from the University of Oxford with a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, specialising in microbiology, structural biology and chromosome structure.

Her final year project focused on using custom-built microfluidic devices to analyse the real-time dynamics of mutagenesis in E. coli, in particular under conditions of oxidative stress. Bacteria were imaged using single-cell epifluorescence microscopy, allowing the genomic position and temporal properties of mutations to be monitored.

In her spare time, Madeleine is a keen footballer and was awarded a Blue at Oxford University, where she captained the 1st XI.  She loves the beach and enjoys surfing whenever she gets the chance.
