Maximilian Seccombe

Associate

Max is a solicitor in the Disputes Resolution team with a focus on patent litigation. He has experience of litigation in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in the UK and of coordinating parallel litigation across multiple jurisdictions. Max’s experience includes advising on disputes concerning reconfigurable parallel data processing architectures, medical devices, biotechnology and pharmaceutical products, including hybrid antibodies. 

He joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2023, having trained at one of London’s leading IP firms.  Max also has in-house experience having been seconded to BP where was involved in their ground break H2Teesside and Mona, Morgan and Morven offshore wind projects.  

Before converting to law Max worked in research spanning theoretical organic chemistry and computational solid-state chemistry.

  • Regeneron Pharmaceuticals v Kymab – A landmark ruling on the law of sufficiency. The case concerned transgenic mice intended to produce a variety of antibodies when challenged by antigens 
  • Illumina Cambridge Ltd v Latvia MGI Tech SIA & Ors – A case involving five patents related to DNA sequencing technology 
  • Akebia Therapeutics Inc v FibroGen, Inc & Astellas – A multi-patent action concerning the use of an enzyme inhibitor to treat anaemia.
