Rhodri is part of the Pharmaceuticals team at Carpmaels & Ransford. He primarily works on small molecule inventions spanning the product development process, from new chemical entities through to further medical uses and new pharmaceutical formulations. Rhodri has experience working at all stages of the patent process, having drafted and prosecuted numerous patent applications, and having worked on EPO oppositions in both attack and defence. He has also gained valuable experience working on various SPC and due diligence projects, where he has pressure tested entire patent portfolios to help optimise a strategy for the client. Rhodri’s current work includes working on the defence of patents covering blockbuster pharmaceutical products that have been challenged at the EPO and at the UK High Court, and is currently assisting the Dispute Resolution team to implement a pan-European enforcement strategy.
Rhodri joined the firm in 2014 after graduating with a first class degree in Chemistry from Jesus College, University of Oxford. As an undergraduate, he was awarded various academic prizes for consistently excellent examination results, and spent his final year in the lab working on copper acetate mediated synthesis of carbocycles, under the supervision of Professor Jonathan Burton.
Outside of work, Rhodri enjoys escaping the city for long walks in the countryside or along a beach. Rhodri also enjoys various sports, never turning down an opportunity to get on the cricket field, golf course, or tennis court. He also follows rugby closely, and is a passionate supporter of his beloved national team, which he expresses with his enthusiastic and often vocal support.
