Rhodri is part of the Pharmaceuticals team, with a focus on small molecules. He has a wealth of experience working on inventions spanning the entire product development process, from drafting and prosecuting applications relating to new chemical entities through to further medical uses, new pharmaceutical forms and formulations. Rhodri has worked on various contentious issues in both attack and defence, having been involved in EPO oppositions/appeals and UK Court proceedings covering blockbuster drugs, and has represented clients in SPC matters before the UKIPO.
Rhodri also has extensive experience of the patent process outside of the UK and Europe, having centrally coordinated and handled the global prosecution of many patent families. He enjoys applying his creative and problem-solving nature to the most complex of issues to help develop and then implement strategies tailored to best fit a client’s needs.
In the office, Rhodri is a strong advocate for a positive and supportive culture relating to mental health and is proud to be one of Carpmaels’ mental health first aiders.
Rhodri joined the firm in 2014 after graduating with a first-class degree in Chemistry from Jesus College, University of Oxford. He spent his final year in the lab working on copper acetate mediated synthesis of carbocycles. Outside of work, Rhodri enjoys long walks in the countryside or along a beach. Rhodri also enjoys various sports, never turning down an opportunity to get on the cricket field, golf course, or tennis court. He also follows rugby closely and is a passionate (loud) supporter of his beloved national team.
