Sam Haggerty
Associate

Sam is an associate in the Pharmaceuticals team at Carpmaels & Ransford. His practice spans all aspects of small molecule pharmaceuticals, including new chemical entities, further medical uses, formulations, polymorphs, and dosing regimens. Sam has experience in drafting and prosecuting European patent applications, and now spends most of his time on post-grant procedure such as oppositions and appeals before the EPO and as part of the firm’s supplementary protection certificate (SPC) practice, where he enjoys advising on SPC filing strategy for marketed innovator products.
Sam joined the team in 2024, having previously started in the profession at another IP firm in 2020. Prior to that, Sam graduated from St Hilda’s College, Oxford with a first-class Masters degree in Chemistry. For his final year research project, Sam developed and completed a 12-step total synthesis of a novel taxadieneone, a precursor to Taxol (paclitaxel). During his studies, he was awarded multiple prizes for outstanding academic achievement and completed supplementary courses in pharmaceutical synthesis, chemical crystallography and chemical pharmacology.
Outside of work, Sam is into all things food, being a keen cook himself. He enjoys seeking out London’s best restaurants and dabbles in growing his own produce at home with limited success.
