Sam Sackville

Sam is part of the Pharmaceuticals team at Carpmaels and Ransford. He handles a variety of subject-matter: from NCEs, further medical uses, formulations, and polymorphs, to DNA-encoded chemical libraries. Currently, Sam is involved in the defence of a number of patents protecting blockbuster pharmaceuticals in multi-party opposition and appeal proceedings at the EPO, as well as the coordination of patent and SPC strategy and prosecution on associated cases. Sam also has experience in due diligence work, for example advising clients on the validity of third party rights in freedom to operate exercises.

Sam graduated from The University of York in 2014, obtaining a first class honours degree with distinction in Chemistry. He spent the final year of his degree at GlaxoSmithKline, working as part of the fibrosis research group. Sam’s project focussed on lead optimisation of small molecule antagonists for the oral treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He took an active role in the development of the chemistry and pharmacology of the programme.

Sam is an enthusiastic musician who loves watching live music. He also enjoys a competitive game of squash or a leisurely round of golf.
