Susannah’s practice covers a wide range of technical subject matter, with a particular focus on medical devices, software, and user interfaces. She coordinates multinational patent families, and prosecutes applications in patent offices around the world, particularly the United States Patent & Trademark Office and the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office. Susannah is experienced in successfully attacking and defending granted European patents during opposition and appeal proceedings, and providing validity and infringement opinions of granted UK patents.
Susannah has drafted and prosecuted the patent portfolio for the predictive technology company SwiftKey – one of London’s most successful start-ups – from their first patent application to acquisition by Microsoft.
Susannah works closely with her clients and has worked in-house with a client to draft applications and provide at-hand advice on patentability, patent filing and prosecution strategy.
Susannah joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2007. She qualified as a UK and European patent attorney in 2011, and was awarded the Gill prize for achieving the highest overall mark in the UK final exams. Before joining Carpmaels & Ransford, Susannah studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, specialising in Experimental and Theoretical Physics.
In her spare time, Susannah enjoys travelling, yoga and playing badminton.
