Fergus Tyrrell

Senior Associate

Fergus is a member of the Pharmaceuticals team at Carpmaels & Ransford, and his practice focuses on small molecule therapeutics and related technologies. He has worked on a variety of patent matters in fields such as new chemical entities, polymorphs, formulations, process chemistry, and dosage regimens. The bulk of Fergus’ work involves prosecution of patent applications and oppositions before the European Patent Office, although he is also involved in the prosecution of applications around the world, as has handled several large due diligence projects. He also enjoys handling SPC work, and regularly advises clients on pan-European SPC filing and prosecution strategies.

Fergus has a first-class degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford, where he was awarded a scholarship by New College in recognition of his consistently high achievements. He entered the patent profession in 2012 after graduation, and joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2014 from another London-based IP firm. He qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2016, and as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2018.

Outside the office, Fergus enjoys sport, in particular football, cricket and skiing.
