Andy is an Associate and Solicitor in the Dispute Resolution team, focusing on patent litigation in the life science, pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. He has assisted clients in the conduct of patent litigation in the High Court and the coordination of parallel litigation across Europe, and has advised clients in relation to patents concerning antibodies, small molecules, non-biological complex drugs, immunologic assays and DNA/RNA technologies, across a broad range of pathologies.
Outside of the life science and pharmaceutical world, Andy has also had extensive experience of FRAND and SEP disputes in the telecoms sector, of litigation relating to autoemissions catalysts and household appliances, and of monitoring and infringement analysis of patents in the retail finance/FinTech sectors.
Prior to joining Carpmaels & Ransford in 2019, Andy trained at one of London’s leading IP litigation firms, where he qualified as a solicitor in September 2015. During his training he was also provided the opportunity of experiencing first-hand a European Commission cartel investigation while working in the firm’s competition law department in Brussels.
Andy has a PhD in T cell immunology from King’s College London that was funded by a prestigious studentship from the Nuffield Foundation, followed by 2 years’ post-doctoral experience in cancer immunotherapy. Andy also has a first class degree in pharmacology from the University of Bath, and twelve months’ experience of working in the immunology laboratories of a major multinational pharmaceutical company.
Outside of the office, Andy enjoys spending time with his young daughter, watching (and occasionally playing) almost any sport, e-sports and video games, and reading up on classical mythology.
